Imagine travelling from Dehradun to Mussoorie on the second-largest ropeway in Asia! Sounds exciting, huh? You will soon witness a ropeway connecting Dehradun, the nation's capital, to the lovely hill station of Mussoorie. The ropeway will also reduce the distance between the two locations' travel times by 10 to 15 minutes, which is the icing on the cake. On March 6, 2019, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat laid the cornerstone for the Dehradun-Mussoorie Ropeway Project, a visionary undertaking of the Uttarakhand Tourism Department. However, the construction of the ropeway was delayed because of the building regulations and the height requirements for the endpoints.
The Dehradun-Mussoorie Ropeway, will have a capacity of 1000–1200 passengers per hour. Purkulgaon Village in Dehradun will serve as the Ropeway's starting point, while MDDA Taxi Stop in Mussoorie will serve as its destination. As they will all disembark at a cab booth, this illustrates how the ropeway will make transport easier for tourists even after they get in Mussoorie. The ropeway is one of the top five largest in the world, and the Uttarakhand Tourism department anticipates a significant increase in tourism once it begins operation. Having a length of 5.5 km, Asia’s Second Biggest Ropeway would also cut short the Dehradun to Mussoorie journey duration to just 15 minutes. The tourism division thinks it will also aid in lessening traffic and gridlock on the roads.
Within the next three years, the Dehradun to Mussoorie ropeway is anticipated to be finished. At a budget of almost 300 crores, the second-largest ropeway in Asia is being built in Uttarakhand by a French company called Poma. Public-private partnership (PPP) construction will be used for the project. The ropeway will include roughly 53 cabins and be able to run through snow and rain. The ropeway will be an electricity-powered, environmentally friendly form of transportation in Uttarakhand that will contribute to lowering pollution levels in the region.
Regarding this, there will be a considerable increase in tourism as it resolves many problems with the hilly roads that people encounter when travelling to Mussoorie. The government is planning to improve the travel infrastructure to Mussoorie as this project is put up, and additional significant modifications to the city's infrastructure will also be noticeable. The underdeveloped roads have proven to be a hurdle.
