The adventure begins as soon as you land in Delhi, from where you can take a train or bus to Amritsar. Many people prefer to take the Shatabdi Express train, which leaves early in the morning and takes about 6 hours to reach Amritsar. Alternatively, there is also the option of a pleasant car ride. After reaching Amritsar, you will check in to your hotel and relax for some time.
At night, feel free to experience the nearby shopping area, which has a lot of typical Punjabi attire. Phulkari Clothes, Juttis (traditional shoes), and Amritsari papad are some of the things you cannot miss to buy. While shopping, do not forget to enjoy great Punjabi food at one of the nearby eateries. With a wide variety of cuisines available in Amritsar, do not leave without tasting street eats like Chhole Bhature, Lassi, and Amritsari Kulcha.
You will be transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.
On the second day, you will spend the whole day sightseeing in Amritsar and visiting all the important sites.
Golden Temple - Start your day by visiting the Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib. It is one of the most revered shrines for Sikhs, and the atmosphere around the temple is blissful, creating peace and comfort among people. Do not miss the langar (community kitchen) in the temple premises, which serves people of any caste or religion free of cost.
Jallianwala Bagh - On completion of the visit to the ‘Golden Temple’, visit the Jallianwala Bagh which is nearby. This place is a haunting reminder of the horrific event that took place in the year nineteen ninety-one. However, it represents the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.
Wagah Border - On a King’s Day holiday, visit the Wagah Border, where enjoy watching the most popular cross-border ceremony held between India and Pakistan. The daily schedule of the border ceremony includes patriotic performances by soldiers of both the armies of the respective countries. The massive crowded venue and the fierce and enthusiastic army men are the reason for this captivating adventure.
After an exciting day, you will return to your hotel in the evening. After all the hustle and bustle, you can also have a quiet family dinner and talk about the day's events.
On your last day, don’t rush to the airport. Instead, plan to go sightseeing or visit other places nearby before returning to Delhi.
Durgiana Mandir - This is one of the other religious places you can visit, which is somewhat similar to the Golden Temple. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and its architecture is also as beautiful as the Golden Temple.
Partition Museum - This is an exhibition that depicts the pain and suffering caused by the partition of India and Pakistan. It has a set of pictures, so-called memorabilia and facts about this event in history.
